I think he was from NY. Charles Jr. died approx. 1895 age 63. Margaret moved to NE and died between 1905 and 1910 near Loupe City, NE. While in Iowa Charles and Margaret had 9 children: George Washington, Mary Ann, Zurniak or Zuriah, John Daniel, Silas William, Charles Jonathan, Omenzo Granville, Amos Coy, and Margaret Lillian. I am seeking descendants of Aaron BARNELL, b. 1813 Columbiana Co. OH, d. 21 Mar 1877, Benton Co. IA, buried in Parker's Grove Cemetery, rural Shellsburg. He m. Elizabeth JOSLIN, 20 Jan 1831, Knox Co. Ohio. They lived in Indiana and Illinois before coming to Iowa in 1868. Their son Eleazer, Co. G, 77th IL, was killed in battle. Apparently Elizabeth never received a mother's pension because she lacked proof of marriage. She was last known to be living in the household of Isaac Ensley, a son in law, in 1887, in Dallas Co. IA, according to pension records of Eleazer. When did she die and where is she buried?

Andrew Jackson VOORHIES, Rachel Rufin ST. JOHN, Moses Jackson DONALD, Arthur Jackson DONALD, Thomas RIDGE, Magdalena SMITH RIDGE, Lavina RIDGE, George Fredrick TANGEMAN, Amelia KROEHNKE, Earl Evertt BROWN, Grace Maud VOORHIES, Barbara RIES. All of the above named ancestors of mine were in Benton County, IA, after 1850 and well into the 1900's. I am interested in all of these families and what was it about Benton County, Iowa that drew people there during the late 1800's. This is the county where all of my family lines come together and I am just interested in knowing more about the county. I would like to know if there is a county history that lists business, farm owners, and the like for the last half of the 1800's. My gg grandfather Andrew Jackson Voorhies owed a store (I think) in Garrison but I have not found it refered to in any history or written description. I do have a timeline by my grandfather, Arthur Jackson DONALD, who married a daughter of the AJ Voorhies, and it states that Donald went into the retail business with his father-in-law in Garrison. Any help would be gratefully appreciated and I am willing and eager to share what I do have.

Trying to find descendants of Luallen and Emeline Herron ADAMS. Moved to Taylor Twp. Benton Co., IA, about 1865. They are seen on the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census and the 1885 Iowa Census for that county. There were 17 living children: Mary Ann married John LANGHAM and lived in Vinton, Elizabeth married James S. GRAY and lived in Farnhamville, Calhoun Co., Iowa, Sylvana Margaret married William F. MURPHY and moved to Waterloo, Simon, John Allen, James Albert, Jane Clementine married George Washington BUTCHER and spent her final days in Oklahoma, Thomas Alfred, Mahala a blind girl who attended the school for the blind in Vinton, Louisa H., Tabetha May, Sara Alice, Joseph Fremont, William W., Benjamin Franklin, Nancy Emaline who married John Dixon MIRACLE, and Cornelius. Luallen and Emeline sold their property in 1886 and there is no record of Luallen ADAMS after that. Would like to find his final resting place and any descendants of his children.

VICK, DRAHOS, VOELKER late 1800's. Jan VICK m. Anna DRAHOS in Czechoslovakia then emigrated to Belle Plaine, Iowa. This is based on information that I have been told, seeking data that would tie the VICK/DRAHOS family together in Benton County. They had several children one of which was my grandmother, Mary VICK, b. 1892. Mary VICK, m. Charles VOELKER around 1910 and it is possible the VOELKER'S were from Belle Plaine also.
