OAK RIDGE CEMETERY

Liberty Township, Ringgold County, Iowa

hr

oak ridge

Photograph courtesy of Tony Mercer, July of 2012

Oak Ridge Cemetery is located in Liberty Township, Ringgold County, Iowa. From U.S. Highway 2, the cemetery is located approximately 1.7 miles north on West Street, Mount Ayr. The entrance to Oak Ridge Cemetery is a long winding gravel lane located on the east side of the road. The keys to the cemetery gate are at City Hall, Mount Ayr.

Some old obituaries refer to Oak Ridge Cemetery as "North Cemetery" of Mount Ayr or "Fife Cemetery".

Oak Ridge Cemetery was recorded for Ringgold County Historical Society by Shirley Hickman and Elsie Galloway in September of 1975. The cemetery grid map was prepared in August of 1975 by Roberta and Dwaine Morgan and Mrs. Lorene Morgan, using various tree clumps and fence lines as starting points, attempting to be as accurate at possible. There is no record at Mount Ayr City hall, apparently lost over time.

Transcriptions updated by Sharon R. Becker February of 2014 & January of 2015. Veteran information updated May of 2015 courtesy of Cathy Kilgore, Ringgold County Veteran Affairs; plot location from Raymond Banner's book, Cemetery Gravestone Recordings of Ringgold County.
