Highland View School No. 2

Benton Township

Ringgold County Rural School Notes
From the Mount Ayr Record News, October 21, 1937

Miss Maxine GEBHARDT, teacher

(Written by Raymond MACKEY and Catherine SHAY)

Our school opened September 6 with an enrollment of eight pupils. They are John SHAY, Thomas SHAY, Virginia STUCK, Mary Ruth MILLER, Raymond MACKEY, Marilyn SHAY, Catherine SHAY and Everett SMELSER.

The third graders are ready for their new Elson-Gray readers.

We have made an interesting September health poster. We are planning to make a health poster each month.

The seventh and eighth grades are working on their geography and history outlines.

Our favorite game is baseball. “Oh, Susanna” is our favorite choir record.

Our school enjoyed the trip to Lone Star to work with Prof. FULLERTON and Miss DICKENS, on the choir list for this year.

Those having perfect attendance this six weeks are John SHAY, Thomas SHAY, Mary Ruth MILLER, Raymond MACKEY, Marilyn SHAY and Catherine SHAY. We would like to keep our good record up because Miss GEBHARDT has offered a prize to those having perfect attendance for a whole term. Last year’s winners were John and Thomas SHAY.

We pledge allegiance to our flag every Friday morning.

For opening exercises we alternate music and reading. Miss GEBHARDT has completed the book “Heidi.” Our new book is “The Secret of the Sundial.”

Mary Ruth MILLER pleasantly surprised us last Thursday by treating us to popcorn.

The girls are working on lunch sets and fancy pillow tops in their vocational work.

In manual training the boys are each making a sunbonnet girl to stand in flower gardens.

You are invited to come and see us at work. We are you friends of Benton No. 2.

Thank You for stopping by!
