RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 31, 1939

Kasey Dredge, Mount Ayr Record-News

Myrtle McKEE, who has been seriously ill, will be unable to report this fall as kingergarten teacher in the Mount Ayr schools and the board of education announces the appointment of Mrs. Jean Powell READ, of Maryville, MO to that position.

A good share of the honors in the baby beef exhibit at the Iowa State Fair went to Ringgold County. Exhibitor and their entries, which were given ratings, included Maurice O'CONNOR, Black Angus; Harold BLAUER, Shorthorn; Park JACKSON, Robert McCREARY, Kenneth CLOUGH, Darold BLAUER and Ted DUFFIELD, Herefords.

Work was commenced the first of the week on improving the park area around the new city reservoir, Loch Ayr. The work is being done under the auspices of the National Youth Administration and is being directed by the local NYA supervisor, Harry KINDER. Eighteen boys will be employed on the park project, which includes building bridges across the streams, rustic benches, open fireplaces, bird hovers [houses?] and many other improvements. The town will furnish approximately $500 for all materials used and one year is allowed in which to complete the work.
