Several new faces will be seen in the halls at Mount Ayr Community school when the doors open on Monday, August
29 for the beginning of classes. Miss Cindy WILLIAMS will be teaching kindergarten, Miss Marilyn BUSCHING will be
teaching physical education, Mrs. Kathy McFARLAND is the fourth grade teacher in the Tingley Center, Mr. James
COLLINS will be teaching vocational agriculture, and Vivian PITLO will be teaching high school English.
One and perhaps two 4-H judging teams from Ringgold county will be in competition at the Iowa State Fair next week.
Rodney BASTOW has been assisting and said there will be a livestock team for sure and perhaps a dairy team. Members of
the four-man team will come from the following county 4-Hers: Eldon and Ellen McALEXANDER, Richard WALTERS, Steve WALTERS,
Barry and Colleen WALTERS, Dennis LINK and Dwayne CAMPBELL.
Opening night for Mount Ayr retail stores was moved from Thursday to Saturday night in action taken at the regular
monthly meeting of the Mount Ayr Community Improvement club Monday night. Stores moved from the traditional
Saturday night opening ot Thursday night in March on a trial basis. After a fairly good response initially, recent
Thursday night shopping has dwindled until merchants concluded it was no longer feasible.
Father James KIERNAN is the newly-appointed member of the Leon Regional Catholic team ministry. Father KIERNAN replaces
Father Jerry O'CONNER who is assigned to the faculty of Dowling high school in Des Moines.
Five Ringgold county 4-Hers will be giving educational presentations at the Iowa State Fair. In the intermediate
division is Carol Ann WALTERS of Beaconsfield and in the senior division are Fred BRYAN of Mount Ayr, Brenda CHRISTNER
of Mount Ayr, and a team consisting of Rebecca KLEJCH and Annie SOBOTKA of Diagonal.
Jacque STEPHENS and Kevin NELSON were united in marriage at four o'clock on June 4, 1977 at the Diagonal United
Methodist Church.
