Mrs. Maxine SICKELS of Kellerton, teacher of the rural school, Liberty No. 7 [Mountain Brush School], has received a check in the amount of five dollars for her entry in the Teachers' Help-One-Another-Club contest, conducted by "The Instructor" of Danville, NY. The check which Mrs. SICKELS received was the award for standing paper figures submitted in the contest.

Paul SURFACE recently purchased Mrs. Marjorie PETERSOHN'S 115-acre farm, one and one-half miles northest of Tingley. Immediate possession was given. Mr. and Mrs. SURFACE, who reside at Sioux Falls, SD, purchased the farm for a home. The transaction was made through E. M. BRECKENBRIDGE, Tingly real estate dealer and insurance agent.

The Rev. Orville C. RINEHART has accepted a call as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr, the duties of which he assumed May 1.

The Mount Ayr Board of Education has purchased two schoolhouses to add to their physical plant. They are the Knowlton school and the Washington No. 7 school. These schoolhouses will be moved to Mount Ayr to provide two additional classrooms which will be needed next year. These two classrooms will make it possible to divide the fifth and sixth grades into two sections. Next year's fifth grade will have 41 students while the sixth grade will have 38.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin NEWTON are included among the outstanding scholars of the undergraduate body of Iowa State College [present day Iowa State University], Ames, who will receive recognition this (Thursday) evening at the annual Honors Dinners of the college. Mr. and Mrs. NEWTON are listed among the high scholarship students -- Mr. NEWTON in agricultural education and Mrs. NEWTON in applied art.

National Hospital Week, observed Saturday and Sunday at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, attracted 115 visitors. Those who visited the hospital during the two-hour period each day were shown through the building and were served coffee by Mrs. W. B. CUNNING and her committee. Mrs. CUNNING poured on Saturday and on Sunday coffee was served by Mrs. J. E. HORNE. Mrs. Easterly NELSON was in charge of floral arrangements for the occasion.
