RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 02, 1964

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Greatly concerned when news was received of the earthquake which caused property damage approximately at hundreds and thousands of dollars and claimed many lives in Alaska, was Mrs. Roy WILKINSON of Mount Ayr, whose son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glen BARNETT and family, reside in Anchorage. That concern was alleviated Tuesday when Mrs. WILKINSON recevied a letter, under date of March 28, from her daughter Marjorie.

During a meeting of the board of education held Tuesday night of last week, the board received resignations from Mrs. Evelyn WARRICK, fifth grade in the Tingley center; Franklin RIESKE, high school mathematics; Mrs. Minnie DeNELSKY, high school librarain and Spanish; and, Max MILLER, elementary music. Mrs. Alice ROEGERS, who had replaced Mrs. Norma BOLTON in the Tingley Center after she had moved to Iowa City, previously indicated her intentions of locating in another school system this fall.

Clair EASON, superintendent of the Diagonal Community school since July, 1963, has resigned, effective July 1 of this year, to accept a comparable position with the Waukee schools. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul EASON of Benton and a graduate of the Mount Ayr high school, EASON is married and has four children.

Fire of an unknown origin totally destroyed the nine-room farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion MILLIGAN one mile west and two miles south of Kellerton in Athens township about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The MILLIGANS are residing for the present at the Lenora BASSETT rental property in Kellerton.

The grade school children of the Tingley center recently received a card from Mrs. John F. Kennedy, in acknowledgement of their expression of sympathy at the time of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The white card, edged in black with the Kennedy coat of arms in the upper center, reads: "Mrs. Kennedy is deeoly appreciative of your sympathy and grateful for your thoughtfulness." The card will be framed and put on display in the Tingley schoolhouse.
