The Nickles-Hall Family
Albert HALL, was reared on a farm south of Benton, Iowa. There were ten children in his family: John, Etta, James,
Fred, Rebecca, Charles, Margaret, Mary, Albert, and Glenn. My father was a farmer and a carpenter by trade.
My mother, Cora Amanda, who was the daughter of William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth (OUDERKIRK) FERTIG, was reared on
a farm north of Benton, Iowa. There were three children in her family: Bertha Mae (SCHLAPIA), Cora Amanda (HALL), and
James Henry FERTIG. My Grandfather FERTIG nicknamed me "Vi" when I was a small child. There were eleven children
in our family: Viola Mae NICKLES, of Benton, Iowa; John Edward
ward, of Duluth, Minnesota (deceased, 1983); Alberta Fae MOYES (twin), of Thornton, Colorado; Albert Rae (twin), who
died at five and one-half years of age in 1932; Eloise Marie SCHMIDT, of Sumter, South Carolina; Lowell Junior, of
Sumter, South Carolina; Opal Oveda WATSON, of Des Moines, Iowa; Cora Ovena PIERICK, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Glenda
Rose MARLOW, of Union City, California; Gerald Lee, of Sumter, South Carolina; and Linda Gayle LILJEBALD, of Fremont,
California. We all graduated from the Benton High School, except Gerald Lee and Linda Gayle, who graduated from
the Mount Ayr High School. ~ Viola Mae HALL NICKLES
NOTE: Albert Milton HALL, son of Samuel and Sarah Jane HALL, was born January 21, 1898, and
died on October 23, 1955. Cora Amanda (FERTIG) HALL, daughter of William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth FERTIG, was born
April 20, 1903, and died on May 16, 1997. They were interred at Benton Cemetery.
