Overholtzer family reunion
The 92nd annual Overholtzer reunion was held on August 2, 2015 at the Tingley Community Building in Tingley, Iowa. David and Suzanne
Overholtzer from Council Bluffs, Iowa, were the hosts.Tim Scott from Bolivar, Missouri, began the day with the blessing to our Lord followed by the
Pledge to Allegiance. Olivia Overholtzer from Council Bluffs, Iowa, then beautifully sang our National Anthem. As usual, the food tables were filled with
the famous Overholtzer feast. The meal was topped off with the traditional freezer of home made ice cream. Following the meal, David Overholtzer opened the
business meeting with family introductions. Letters were read from relatives who were unable to attend. These were from Richard and Joan Overholtzer from
San Jose, California, and Jerry and Georgia Cole from Monmouth, Ill. We were blessed to have two honored guests to be introduced to the gathering. The 2015
Ringgold County Fair Queen Jaci Haidsiak, and the 2015 Ringgold County Fair Princess Lacey Weeda. What makes this so special is Jaci and Lacey's Great, Great,
Great Grandparents were John E. and Elizabeth Overholtzer. We are honored to have these cousins as our county fair royalty. Tim Scott read a letter by
John E. Overholtzer of Tingley, written to his mother in Grand River, Iowa, on April 21, 1912. It was somewhat difficult to read, but was very interesting
and contained a lot of information of Overholtzer life in 1912. David Overholtzer read a tribute to the Overholtzer family from United States Representative
David Young. This tribute will be read from the floor of the House of Representatives in September and will be entered into the official House Registry.
A copy of this tribute is included in the Overholtzer archive. For further business, a possible cemetery tour on the Saturday prior to the 2016 reunion was
discussed. David Overholtzer and John A. Overholtzer will begin work on this in the coming months in hopes of including this as part of the next year's
runion. Any interesting family facts and history will be appreciated, so this can be included as part of the tour. Gerald Luce asked for a volunteer
to start an Overholtzer newsletter. He envisions this newsletter to include births, deaths, reunion information, and Overholtzer history. With no volunteers
to tackle this project, it was tabled and will be discussed further at next year's reunion. John F. and Mary Overholtzer volunteered to be the hosts
for next year's reunion. This reunion will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Tingley Community Building at 12:30 p.m. Deaths reported were Maurine
