Overholtzer Reunion
The 81st annual OVERHOLTZER reunion was held Sunday, August 1, 2004, at the Tingley Community Building. Vickie SOWERS,
daughter of Joyce (OVERHOLTZER) and O'Neal SCOTT and granddaughter of Wayne and Ellen OVERHOLTZER, hosted the event.
David SCOTT returned thanks before potluck dinner was enjoyed by 79 relatives and friends. After dinner the SCOTT
family held a carnival in the park foar the children. Many games were setup and the children received lots of prizes.
They were also treated to snow cones. Jim TULL and Justin FROST had their race cars on display for everyone to enjoy.
After the carnival the children went inside and presented a talent show. Everyone enjoyed piano solos by Maddie OVERHOLTZER,
Ellen OVERHOLTZER, and Brantley SCOTT; violin solos by Christian OVERHOLTZER and Christiana OVERHOLTZER; a vocal solo by
Olivia OVERHOLTZER; a hula hoop demonstration by Sadie FROST; and the SCOTT family singing a hymn accompanied by Vickie
SOWERS on the accordian. Vickie SOWERS presided over the business meeting. Secretary/treasurer Jenesse TULL read the
minutes and gave the treasurer's report. She was retained for another year. David and Suzanne OVERHOLTZER volunteered to
host the next reunion on the first Sunday in August 2005 at the Tingley Community Building. Letters were read from
Richard OVERHOLTZER, Virginia LUTHER HILMAN, Charlotte BUFFINGTON and Clair and Donna HEYER. Beverly and Martel POORE gave a
report on the plaque lisiting German Immigrants that is on display at the Iowa Genealogy Building in Des Moines. The name of
Christian OVERHOLTZER has been added to the plaque. Jim OVERHOLTZER had pictures of OVERHOLTZER ancestors and asked for
help in identifying them. Joyce SCOTT also had pictures on display. Included were pictures of a birthday party the
SCOTTS held on what would have been the 100th birthday of Wayne OVERHOLTZER. As part of the celebration the family had
released 100 balloons to celebrate Wayne's life. At the close of the meeting a drawing was held andmany door prizes
were given. One marriage was reported: J. Christian OVERHOLTZER, Jr. to Paula LARWICK, married in Africa in July
2004. He is the son of James C. OVERHOLTZER of Mount Ayr. One death was reported: Jane OVERHOLTZER on May 31, 2004. She was
the wife of Wm. Clayton OVEHOLTZER. Two births were reported: Maverick Robert WAGNER born October 8, 2001 to Jennifer and
Nick WAGNER and Devlin James WAGNER born Dec. 19, 2003 to Jennifer and Nick WAGNER. These children are are the great-grandchildren
of James C. OVERHOLTZER. The following people attended the reunion: Jack and Marie KENDALL of Cedar Rapids; Dick and
