Starting this file with Stephen Arnold he had two sons, William Henry and Andrew Jackson marry daughters of Pheobe Winegar. Henry married Julia Pannell and Andrew Jackson married Melvina Jones. Past that bit of information, I defer to Jones researchers.

In 1860 Hawkins County census, Pheobe Winegar and Julia are living with Andrew and Julia Wininger Derrick; her brother in law and sister. In 1870 she was with the family of Thomas and Pheobe Winegar Jones and her daughter Julia Jones was 13.

Joseph Pannell, Julia’s was apparently a son of Maria Pannell. He married Jane Richardson 31 Oct 1857 in Hawkins County, Tennessee and they had a son John Carter Pannell born 2 Feb 1861. There may have been two other children to this marriage, a James and Elizabeth Pannell.

The names of their children and dates came to me through my mother and her paternal aunts Mary Amanda and Orlena A. Arnold.

CHURCH HILL - Selma S. Shoemaker, 80, passed away Monday night (Feb. 7, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an illness.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a longtime teacher in the Hawkins County School System, serving at Church Hill High, Volunteer High, Church Hill Elementary, and Carter's Valley Elementary schools, and earlier at Cowan's Branch School in Scott County, Va. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary society of women educators, having served as president of the local chapter.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County, a dedicated educator, and a woman of deep faith, with the gift of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents, Sam and Fayenettie Shipley; an d her sister, Mary B. Blevins of Abingdon.

She is survived by her three children, Larry Shoemaker and wife Peggy of Atlanta, Ga., Anne McNutt and husband Tom of Hilton Head, S.C., and Lynn Shoemaker and wife Peggy of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Patrick Shoemaker, Hal and Anneliese Shoemaker, Tami S. and Chris Fitzpatrick, all of Atlanta, Thomas McNutt, of Washington, D.C., Jonathan Shoemaker of Crested Butte , Colo., and Jamie Shoemaker of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren, Kevin, Connor, and Carson Fitzpatrick and Brandon Shoemaker, all of Atlanta; two sisters, Aldameda Landiss of Nashville, and Beulah Bellamy of Church Hill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Bill Kendrick will conduct the services, with participation from Rev. Daryl Crouch.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

GATE CITY, Va. - Lissie Jean (Frazier) Hartgrove, 65, of Rt. 3, the Yuma community, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born June 12, 1940 in Hawkins County, she was a daughter of the late William McKinley and Ett a Arnold Frazier. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted wife, m other and grandmother and was a friend to many. She was preceded in death by her brothers, J.W. Frazier and Kenneth Frazier.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Hagan Hartgrove of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita McClain and husband Rick of Kingsport, Michelle McDavid and husband Randy of Gate City (Yuma); one son, Tim Hartgrove of Gate City (Yuma); three grandchildren, Beth Snapp, Tanner McDavid and Luke Hartgrove; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis Frazier and wife Florence of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends are left to mourn her passing.
