Their tenure aboard ISS did not occur until docking two days later on June 7th. The crew of three remained in space for 184 days, 178 of which were aboard the ISS. Expedition V was a continuation of uninterrupted human presence in space which was begun by Expedition I in 2000. The crew returned to Earth aboard STS-113 Space Shuttle Endeavour on December 2, 2002.

Crew of Expedition V were:

Commander Valery Korzun, Russian Space Agency, second spaceflight
Flight Engineer 1 Peggy Whitson, NASA, first spaceflight
Flight Engineer 2 Sergei Treschev, Russian Space Agency, first spaceflight

Her EVA (space walk) was with Valery Korzun on August 16, 2002 from 09:23 to 13:48, 4 hours, 25 minutes, in which they installed six debris panels onto the Zvezd Service Module. They removed the panels from their temporary location on ISS's Pressurized Mating Adapter 1 prior to attachment. The panels are designed to shield Zvezda from potential space debris impact. ~ Photograph courtesy of NASA
