DIED - At Vicksburg, while battling for the Flag of his Country, on the [bland] day of [blank], Capt. Henry A. Rogers of the 1st Illinois artillery.
Capt. Rogers was formerly our townsman, and the news of his death in battle caused deep sorrow to his numerous acquaintances at McGregor.
He leaves a wife and two children, resident in Chicago.
We offer to the bereaved friends our most sincere condolence. The generous and brave-hearted soldier fell at the head of his company, and won a fame imperishable at the sacrifice of his life in the cause of his government whose Constitution he loved so well.
One more is added to the long list of heroes who have passed to that bourne whence no traveler returns.
