Clayton County Register, 01 Jan. 1953.
A Marquette man, Lawrence Goltz, was killed Monday in a hunting accident when his .12 guage shotgun discharged severing his jugular vein.
Death was termed "accidental" by Coroner Ed Tuecke who said Goltz bled to death. He apparently slipped on an icy slope while approaching a wooded area causing his gun to discharge, explained Sheriff Forrest Fischer, who checked the accident with the coroner.
The accident is believed to have happened at about 4 p.m. The body was found at about 5 p.m. by his son Robert along a timber road near Marquette where he had been hunting. Robert became suspicious when the dog returned home alone and started a search.
Goltz is survived by his wife; three sons Robert, who is home on furlough from Belleville, Ill., Raymond of Atlanta, Ga., and Eugene, a student at Lawrence college in Kansas; and two brothers, Louis of McGregor and Jack of Monona.
Services will be Friday at St. Mary's church in McGregor with burial in St. Maty's cemetery.
