Found on the Ia Genology website from "The History of Black Hawk County, Iowa Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878 - Section S".

"Shields, Robert R., farmer; Sec. 33, P.O. Cedar Falls, born in England, July 12, 1809 and married Hannah Johnson in 1832, she was born in England in 1809, and died in 1853; have six children living - Elizabeth, Mary, Isabel, Jane, Samuel and Edward; they have lost six children - Robert, Edward, Eliza, Sarah, Rosana and Robert. Came to America in 1851, and settled in St. Joseph Co., Mich., where he resided until 1856, when he came to this county, and in 1873, settled on his present farm of forty acres, valued at #40 per acrea."

According to the Census 1860 Florence Township, St. Joseph, Michigan; his daughter Isabel was married to Horace Knapp M 30 Massachusetts and his son Samuel Shields was living with Horace & Isabel (Shields) Knapp at that time. Isabel's Find A Grave Memorial# 98217794.

His daughter Mary married William Tennyson. Find A Grave Memorial# 40359814.
