Welcome to the Winneshiek Update Page. This site is undergoing daily changes. While making additions and improvements accidents may happen. I will make every effort to keep them to a minimum. Please let me know if I seem to be missing some obvious mistakes.

December 2018 Additions and Improvements
Posted a complete record set consisting of the names of all 190 addressees of the advertised Letters that were waiting to be delivered in the Decorah Post Office on April 1, 1861.
Posted Marriages and deaths that were published in the Decorah Republic during 1861, 26 Deaths and 20 Marriages.
Posted a complete record set consisting of all 85 names of the members of the Decorah Guard that early in the Civil War became members the Third Regiment of Iowa Volunteers.
Posted a complete record set consisting of the names of all 102 addressees of the advertised Letters that were waiting to be delivered in the Decorah Post Office on October 1, 1860.
Posted Marriages and deaths that were published in the Decorah Republic during 1860, 9 Deaths and 11 Marriages.
Added 99 recently submitted Obituaries to the Winneshiek County Obituaries index.
November 2018 Additions and Improvements
Added a Complete Record Set of he 1860 Fremont Township Census Extraction,441 people are enumerated.
October 2018 Additions and Improvements
Added a Complete Record Set of he 1860 Frankville Township Census Extraction, 902 people are enumerated.
Added in the last 6 months 114 photos and in the last 12 months 286 photos of the deceased. These photos were linked to their Obits and/or to their Gravestone photos.
Added 46 recently submitted Obituaries to the Winneshiek County Obituaries index .

Posted a Complete Record Set of the Transcriptions for chapters

Bio's) of the 1000 page book "Winneshiek County, Iowa Biographies 1996".
Book now complete, therefore the posted material consists of a Complete Record Set
of the transcribed book "Winneshiek County, Iowa Biographies 1996"
Added 51 recently submitted Obituaries to the Winneshiek County Obituaries index .
The Current Festina St. Mary's cemetery (first burial in 1859) is the second cemetery utilized by members of the St. Mary's - Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. The first cemetery was located across the road from the current church. The current cemetery was established because of unsuitable soil conditions at the first site. A Web Page has been created to consolidate information about the people buried at the first site.

Added Complete Record Set the 1860 Bloomfield Township Census Extraction, 979 people are enumerated.
Added a letter that contains historical information about Old Mission and Saint Anthony of Padua Chapel.
Added information about the closing of the First Lutheran Church.

Cemetery Pages. The First Lutheran cemetery table is a complete Record Set and now
documents 530 graves.

Moved 532 names from the recently submitted Obituaries page to the Alphabetical Obituary pages .
