Lionel Herteen

Lionel C. "Tutor" Herteen, 81, of West Grove died April 10, 1991, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

He was born Oct. 17, 1909, near Unionville, Iowa, to Claus W. and Rosa I. Paris Herteen. He married Daisy Wheeler on Aug. 19, 1935 in Tuscmbia, Mo.

He farmed near West Grove all of his life. He was a member of West Grove United Methodist Church, and board member of West Grove United Methodist Church, and board member of West Grove Park Board. He was a graduate of Blakesburg High School and the Iowa Success and Business College in Ottumwa. He is a 4-H leader for many years and a Soil Conservation Service commissioner.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Phylis Davis of Emmetsburg, Patricia Huggins and Judy Salvaggio of Des Moines; two sons, Philip of Milton and Donald of West Grove; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a sister, Lily Hunter of Drakesville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila, Fleming, and three brothers, Clarence, Basil and John.
