John Howard Rickert

John Howard Rickert, son of John F. and Ellen J. Gwin Rickert, was born May 1, 1891 in Washington, Kansas and departed this life early the morning of Monday, July 1, 1991 at Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield, at the age (or) 100.

He married Mary S. Funk December 24, 1915 in Oskaloosa. She died August 26, 1979. Also preceding him in death were a son, William who gave his life for his country in World War II, an infant son, a granddaughter, and a great grandson, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Howard and Mary farmed in the Eddyville and Cedar communities and moved to their farm southwest of Douds in 1941. Howard had resided at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua since 1985.

Remaining to cherish his memory are a son, Roy and his wife, Vera of Douds, a daughter, Frances Eleanor Brown, Locust Grove, Arkansas, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, 1991 at 1 P.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial was established for Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.
