William O'Neill Died at Home Here Tuesday Evening
William O'Neill, 43, died at his apartment at 737 Ninth street at about 8:30 last evening, after an illness of approximately ten days. Death was due to heart trouble and other complications. Mr. O'Neill had not been well since an attack of pneumonia that he had suffered about three years ago.
Funeral rites are to be held at St. Patrick's church of which he was a member, Friday at 9 a. m. with Rev. Fr. James Mahoney in charge. The body will then be taken to Emmetsburg for interment.
"Bill" O'Neill, as he was familiarly known here, came to Nevada about nine years ago as a representative of the state banking department to assist in the liquidation of the assets of the then closed Farmers Bank.
After the duties in connection with the liquidation of that bank were concluded, he did relief work in various banks over the state for a time and then became connected with the Iowa Highway commission in which capacity he continued until the present time.
William O'Neill was born near Graettinger, Iowa, February 27, 1899, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John O'Neill. Later the family moved to Emmetsburg and it was there that he grew to manhood, while attending the public schools of Emmetsburg, from which he graduated.
After graduation he was employed by the National Bank of Emmetsburg which position he held for ten years. After the closing of the bank he served for a year and a half as deputy treasurer of Palo Alto county and later became connected with the state banking department and assisted in other receivership liquidations before coming to Nevada.
He was united in marriage to Rose Schubert of Manson Sept. 14, 1925 and she with the three brothers and four sisters survive him.
The brothers are Dr. H. J. O'Neill, PhD of St. Louis, Dr. Fred J. O'Neill, DDS of St. Louis and Thomas O'Neill of Fort Dodge; while the sisters are Mrs. C. V. Pringle of Ringsted, Mrs. Leo Williams of Estherville, and Mrs. Dorothy Seerup and Mrs. Evelyn Bronske of Fairmont, Minn.
The body will lie in state at the Morfoot Funeral home this evening and all day Thursday and friends may call to view the remains any time during those periods. On Thursday evening at 8 p. m. the members of St. Patrick's congregation and others who desire to join the service, will assemble at the funeral home to recite the Rosary in his honor.
