Pioneer Collins Woman Dies at Des Moines Hospital
Collins, Feb. 24--Mrs. Marie Yokom Wood, 81, longtime resident of this community died Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Iowa Methodist hospital at Des Moines, she having been quite seriously ill, suffering from nerve trouble for some time.
Born in Canada, Feb. 9, 1860, she came to Iowa with her family when a child of but two years. She grew to womanhood in the Melbourne community east of here and it was there she was married to W. W. Wood, Oct. 5, 1876. The larger part of their married life was spent in or near Collins and the husband died here in 1916.
LeRoy, the second son, died in 1903; the eldest son, Wilbur, lives at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, while the only daughter Calla Wood, lived with her mother. For a time following the death of the husband and father, Mrs. Wood and Calla lived at Omaha, but returned to Collins five years ago and this has been their home since.
Mrs. Wood had been active in church work during her entire life, being a member of the Collins Methodist church.
Definite funeral arrangements had not been made at noon today, pending the arrival of the son.
