Here is some additional information. I remember starting out and being overwhelmed. Hope this helps. What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want to follow this family forward through the daughter Alice or are you going backwards and looking for Susan's parents?
Susan Battisfore appears in the 1880 Census as Dick mentions.
1880 Census City of Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois
Battisfore, Eugene age 33 Eng. at saw mill born in Ohio parents born New York, wife Susan age 33 keeping house born in Ohio parents also born Ohio, son John age 14 at school born Illinois, daughter Harriet age 5, son Albert age 3, daughter Clara age 1.
1900 Federal Census City of Davenport, Iowa Scott County (This is just across the river from Rock Island Illinois where they were in the 1880 Census)
Battisford, Eugene, born June 1844 age 55 married for 28yrs engineer stationery, wife Susan born Nov 1840 age 59 married 28 years, 11 children born to her 6 are still living, son John E. born June 1868 age 31 single laborer, son Albert L. born Dec 1876 age 23 single laborer, daughter Clara B. born Sept 1878 age 21 single house work, son Wilber C. born May 1881 age 18 single laborer, daughter Alice L. born Nov 1886 age 13 single at school. In this census it has Eugene born New York but no birth states for his parents. It shows Susan born in Ohio but New York as her parents birth states. It also shows Albert cannot read or write.
1915 Iowa State Census City of Davenport
Eugene Battisfore age 71 Scott County, City of Davenport, 2nd Ward, married, can read and write, residing in Iowa 26 yrs, Occupation Teamster, not unemployed in 1914, 9 years of grammar school no HS or college, born New York, father and mother born Wisconsin.
Susan Battisfore age 74 Scott County, City of Davenport 2nd ward, Married, can read and write, 26 yrs residing in Iowa, not employed, 8 years of grammar school, no high school or college, born Ohio, father and mother born Ohio, no church affiliation.
I checked the 1910 Census and on that one Eugene's parents are listed as born New York.
