OBITUARY - CRYSTAL WHITTINGTON

Crystal WHITTINGTON, 81, of Mount Ayr died April 1, 2003, at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the United Church of Diagonal. THe Rev. Karen GARRISON will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Diagonal Cemetery. There is open visitation after 10:00 a.m. Friday with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Diagonal.

Mrs. WHITTINGTON daughter of Hazel (ANDERSON) and Clarence MORRISON was born Dec. 10, 1921, south of Tingley. She graduated from Tingley High School in 1940 and Iowa School of Beauty in 1945. On Sept. 2, 1941 she married Wilmer PATE. On Dec. 10, 1950 she married Howard WHITTINGTON and he died Sept. 11, 2000. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Mount Ayr from 1946 to 1957, Diagonal from 1957 to 1965 and her home until the late 1990's.

She grew up near Tingley and lived most of her adult life near Diagonal. She was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, American Legion Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge, Pricilla Club, Friendship Club and Gravel Go-Getters.

Survivors include three children, Cathy (husband Dennis) LARSON of Farnhamville, David (wife Kathi) WHITTINGTON of Augusta, Ga., and John (wife Cheryl) WHITTINGTON of Diagonal, a brother Rex (wife Gladys) MORRISON of Winterset; three sisters Phyllis SMITH of Vernal, Utah, Nina (husband Jim) EASON of Mount Ayr, and Ardis LANZILOTTA of Clarinda; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In additon to her second husband she was preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons.
