DIAGONAL BOY, 5, DIES IN FARM ACCIDENT

A five year old boy was killed Monday afternoon when he fell from a moving tractor and was run over.

Jared Alan WHITTINGTON, 5, died from injuries sustained in the accident which occured at a farm owned by his grandfather, Howard WHITTINGTON, approximately six miles north of Mount Ayr in Jefferson township.

The driver of the tractor was Jared's brother, John Paul WHITTINGTON, 17.

According to Ringgold County Sherriff Lyle MINNICK, Jared was riding on the tractor when it made a turn and he fell off. Before the tractor could be stopped, it ran over him.

Jared was taken to the Ringgold County Hospital by his brother John Paul, and his father John WHITTINGTON. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Jared was the son of John and Cheryl WHITTINGTON of Diagonal.

DIAGONAL - Jared Alan WHITTINGTON, 5, of Diagonal died May 4, 1992 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr from injuries sustained in a tractor accident near Mount Ayr in Jefferson Township.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Diagonal. The Rev. Eydie STEPHENS will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Diagonal Cemetery. A family night will be 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Diagonal. A memorial has been established in his name.

He was born April 14, 1987 in Mount Ayr to John and Cheryl (NEISEMIER) WHITTINGTON. He was a lifetime resident of Diagonal.

Survivors include his parents, John and Cheryl WHITTINGTON of Diagonal: a sister Chris Alynn WHITTINGTON and two brothers, John Paul and Clint James WHITTINGTON, all of the home and grandparents, Howard and Crystal WHITTINGTON of Diagonal and Clarence and Edith NEISEMIER of Thayer.
