OBITUARY - HOWARD WHITTINGTON

Howard WHITTINGTON, 80, of Diagonal died Sept. 11, 2000 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at the United Church of Diagonal with the Rev. Pam FARREN officiating. Burial will be in the Diagonal cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Morris-Herrold Post No. 395. There is open visitation with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to American Legion Morris-Harrold Post No. 395.

Mr. WHITTINGTON was born July 2, 1920 at Kent to Francis M. and Cornelia (BICKFORD) WHITTINGTON. He graduated from Shannon City High School in 1939. On December 10, 1950, he married Crystal W. MORRISON in Mount Ayr. He was a farmer and lived most of his life near Diagonal. He was a member of American Legion Morris-Herrold Post No. 395 and a former board member of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife Crystal WHITTINGTON of Diagonal; a daughter Cathy (husband Dennis) LARSON of Farnhamville; two sons, David (wife Kathie) WHITTINGTON of Augusta, Ga., and John (his wife Cheryl) WHITTINGTON of Diagonal; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita SALSBURY, brother Robert WHITTINGTON and two grandchildren.
