OBITUARY - JOSEPH SEATON
Joseph Wilson SEATON, son of Hugh Keenan and Nettie (OMER) SEATON, was born in Delphos, Iowa on November 2, 1924. He departed this life on November 26, 1985 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Iowa Methodist Hospital at the age of 61 years and 24 days.
Joe was baptized at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Delphos. He attended school and graduated from Delphos High School in 1942. He was associated with his family in the grocery business for several years in Delphos before buying the store in 1971. He became postmaster at Delphos in 1958, succeeding his mother, who was postmaster for 35 years. He had just recently retired due to illness.
On August 20, 1960, he was united in marriage to Virginia BARNESON. She brought with this union three sons and one daughter. In 1981, Joe and his wife, Virginia, purchased the Dairy Sweet in Mount Ayr, which the operated together.
He was a member of the Armed Forces, where he served in the Medical Corp. from September 1950 to September 1952. He was a member of the Masonic Faith Lodge at Mount Ayr for 35 years and also of the American Legion Post #172 at Mount Ayr.
He served as a member on the board of the Ringgold County Historical Society. He was instrumental in organizing the Centennial Celebration for the town of Delphos in 1980.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one step-son Michael. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of the home; two step-sons, Gary SON of Kansas City, MO. and Terry SON of Blockton, Iowa; one step-daughter, Patricia SON of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Diana, of Blockton. He is also survived by two sisters: Mildred LINK and husband, Harrison of Creston, Iowa, and Mari HUMBERT and husband Harold of near Delphos; one nephew, Keenan GLENN of Kansas City, Mo., and five step-grandchildren.
Services were held from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa on November 30, 1985, conducted by Rev. Norman NOBLE. Music was provided by Mrs. Merrill PERRY and Arlen HUGHES.
Casket bearers were Bill QUICK, Keenan GLENN, Darrell STEWART, Jerry PRITCHETT, Mark STEPHENSON, and Monte STEPHENSON. Honorary pallbearers were Vance GEIGER, Jerald WALTER, Lloyd STEPHENS, Ralph BRAMMER, Lester TROSTER, and Charles PRITCHARD. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
