On Wednesday, May 18 1910, at his home in Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold Co. Ia., occurred the death of John SECOR. He was a native of the state of New York and was born in Sept. 1858. When about twenty-one years of age he left his home in N.Y. and went to Marshall county, Il., where in 1888 he was married to Miss Edith CARTER, with whom in 1894 he moved to Bremer county, Iowa and two years later to Ringgold county where they made their home until his death. To them were born two children, Virgil and Eva, both of whom with their mother are still living.
Mr. SECOR was a man of modest and retiring disposition and was honest and upright in all his business transactions, being well respected by all his neighbors. He was remarkably kind in the home, never speaking harshly nor behaving unkindly to either wife or children.
His ailment was rheumatism with which he was a great sufferer for nearly eight years, often suffering the most excruciating pain, all of which he endured with the most remarkable patience.
While he was not a member of any church, he often expressed a hope for the future, manifesting a longing to depart and be at rest. The funeral was preached by Rev. A. C. HECKATHORNE, of Benton, assisted by Rev. McKINLEY of Ringgold City, in the United Evangelical church at Ringgold City and he was buried in Ringgold Cemetery.
