Murdered by Negros

Michael Holleran was assaulted by four Negros in front of the largest hotel in Des Moines and killed. The street was crowded at the time. One Negro struck Holleran on the head with a pine board in the end of which was a screw three inches long. The screw penetrated the brain. Whiskey and an old grudge were the cause. The Negros escaped. Holleran was prominent in city politics.
