Bert Graves Dies at Son's Home in Reading
After an illness of about a month Grandpa Graves died at the home of his son, Hiram Graves, at Reading Sunday morning, at the age of nearly eighty.
Bert Graves was born in Simosvolde, Ostfriesland, Germany, January 6, 1848. He served in the German War and was a veteran of '70 and '71. He married in Germany to Christine Vogt in 1872. Seven children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. He came to America in 1879 and settled in Carroll county where he lived sixteen years. His wife died in 1888. A few years later he married Miss Catherine Wessels. Then he moved to Sibley where he made his home till a few years ago, since when he has made his home with his son. He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, Mrs. C.H. Stender and Mrs. Will Turk, both of Minneapolis, four sons, Hiram of Reading, Minn.; Peter, Traer; Barney, Sibley; and Theodore, Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Barney, Ashton, and eighteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at Reading and the remains taken to Sibley for interment.

Also different spellings for family names are printed in the newspapers as; Katherine/Catherine, Wessels/Wessel, Weidenkoft/Wiedenhoeft. Katherine/Catherine Wessels is noted as a wife to Bert Graves and Peter Graves. No information is currently available for Barney Graves who is listed as a brother to Bert.Clarification is needed.
