Funeral services for Amanda Emma Buchholz were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 20, 1960 at two o'clock from the American Lutheran Church in Melvin with Rev. Glenn Woodrich officiating.

Amanda Emma Buchholz nee Mielke was the daughter of Charles and Sophia (Centner) Mielke, Sr. She was born September 13, 1888 in Harrison township of Osceola county, Iowa. She was a life-time resident of this county.

As an infant she was brought to the Lord in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. As a young girl she made her confirmation vows at the altar of the Lutheran church in May City, Iowa. She remained true to this faith throughout her long life.

She spent her girlhood years on the farm of her parents east of May City. She received her education in the rural schools of that area.

On February 17, 1909, she was united in marriage with John D. Buchholz of Melvin, Iowa. The family made their home on a farm northeast of Melvin, and for a period of five years in town. God blessed this union with six children, three boys and three girls. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed away April 25, 1939; a son, Elmer, who passed away in infancy in 1911; a daughter, Elsie, who died at the age of 1 1/2 years in 1916; her parents, two brothers and a sister.

The last years she has made her home with the Year brothers, George and Ralph, of Melvin. Here she served as a faithful homemaker for the family. She enjoyed her work and was known for her ever pleasant personality.

On Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 14, she suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital at Sheldon where she passed away Friday morning, Dec.16. She had attained the age of 72 years, 3 months and 3 days.

She was a confirmed member of the Lutheran church of Melvin; a faithful member of the Ladies Aid Society where she served as secretary for a number of years. Her last Sunday on earth found her at the worship service in the house of God.

She is survived by four children: Elda (Mrs. John Harms) of Spencer; Esther (Mrs. William Riecks) of Melvin, Marvin of Ripen, California, and Alvin of Downey, California; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Mielke of Hartley; two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Benz and Mrs. Ida Mohr, both of Melvin; an aunt, Anna Mielke of Bancroft, Nebraska; and a large number of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She was laid to rest in Baker Twp. Cemetery to await the awakening call of the Savior when he shall come in His glory. May she rest in peace and may the light of eternity shine unto her.

Pallbearers were her nephews, Bob Benz, Dick Benz, Elmer Mielke, George Mielke, Art Mielke, and Kenneth Mohr.
