Funeral services for Emma L. Birkhofer, 87, Moscow, were held Jan. 12, 1989 at the Wilton Presbyterian church with the Rev. Telford Dindinger officiating. The organist was Diana Maurer and the vocalist was Patty Smith. Pallbearers were Dennis, Ronald and Steve Fulton, Mike Denkman, Mike Moore, Berry Clemens and Alan and Tim Birkhofer. Burial was in the Oakdale cemetery.

Mrs. Birkhofer died Jan. 9 at the Muscatine Care Center.

Emma Willroth was born Oct. 21, 1901 at Kanaranzi, Minn. to Ludwig and Caroline Schroder Willroth. She married Elmer Pahl Dec. 15, 1920 and he died Sept. 6, 1921. She married Harry Birkhofer Feb. 21, 1931 and he died Sept. 27, 1962.

Mrs. Birkhofer was a graduate of Central College of Music in Moline, Ill. and was a longtime piano and organ teacher.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, where she was an organist for many years and was a 50-year plus member of Purity Chater No. 365 Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Birkhofer is survived by a son, Lyle Birkhofer, Moscow; a daughter, Marjorie Fulton, Whitten; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, a half-brother and 2 half-sisters.
