Funeral services for Robert Black, 61, West Liberty, were held Jan. 19, 1989 at the First United Church, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Burial, with military honors, was held at the Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Black died Jan. 17 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness.

The son of Peter and Helen Williams Black, he was born Sept. 17, 1927 in Iowa City. He married Erma Sterner March 19, 1951 in Muscatine.

Mr. Black was a 1946 graduate of West Liberty high school and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He was a World War II veteran, served with the Air Force and was a member of the Air Force band.

He was an industrial arts teacher in Lone Tree, West Branch and West Liberty schools. For the past year he worked in the woodworking department of University hospitals.

Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Erma; a son, Robe, West Liberty; 4 grandchildren and 2 sisters, Betty Hogenson, Eagle Grove and Barbara Vargo, Worchester, Mass.
