Funeral services for LeRoy Thurness, 85, were held at the West Liberty United Methodist church Dec. 29, 1988 with the Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Burial was in the North Prairie cemetery at West Liberty. Mr. Thurness died at his home in West Liberty Dec. 26.

The son of Halbert and Daisy Fouts Thurness, he was born in Grandprairie township, near Mt. Vernon, Ill. March 19, 1932.

The couple farmed in the West Liberty area, retiring in 1960 and moving to West Liberty in 1985. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert, Marion, Coe college football coach and former Tipton teacher and coach; 3 grandchildren; a brother, Harold and a sister, Jewell Thurness, both of Centralia, Ill.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
