TERRY CHARLES PAYNE

Terry Charles Payne, 75, of Wooldridge, Missouri, formerly of Castana, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Howard Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Riverside Christian Church, 17111 Klinton Drive, Boonville, MO 65233 with interment to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville.

Terry was born December 30, 1948, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of William Forrest "Frosty" and Bertha Blossom (Gries) Payne. He grew up in Blencoe, Iowa, and graduated from West Monona High School in 1967. He Enlisted in the United States Army in March 1968 obtained the rank of SP5 and was discharged in March 1971. Terry Payne and Janice Melby were united in marriage on November 3, 1967, in Soldier, Iowa. To this union, 3 sons were born.

Terry enjoyed all outdoor activities. These included motorcycle rides, rock climbing with his jeep, restoring old Ford tractors, and tractor pulling. He was also the mayor of Castana, Iowa, and was in charge of the Castana, Iowa Centennial in 1986. His career was important to him. He worked for J. I. Case Company upon his return from the Army and started his sales career. He sold insurance for Farm Bureau but went back to selling farm machinery for DMI, Inc. In 1984 he started his career with motorcycles and became the District Manager for American Suzuki for 15 years. His dream job came when he went to work for Harley Davidson. He was the District Manager for them for 16 years until his retirement in 2014.

Terry loved his boys and grandkids very much. He was always interested in what they were doing. It was quite a switch from having 3 boys to having 7 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

Survivors include his wife Janice Payne of Wooldridge, MO; sons: Michael (Carol Payne of Anna, Texas, Jeremy (Christina) Payne of Boonville, MO, and Russell (Vicki) Payne of Monroe City, MO; grandchildren: Courtney(Zac) Valant of Platte City, MO, Chandler Payne of Goose Creek, SC, Carissa Payne of Austin, TX, Ciara Payne of College Station, TX, Chloe Payne of Anna, TX, Hudson Payne of Boonville, MO, Mallory Payne of Boonville, MO, Alex (Cole) Crider of Monroe City, MO, and Haleigh St. Clair of Jefferson City, MO; brother-in-law Russell (Cindy) Melby of Castana, IA; sisters-in-law Shirley Melby of Castana, IA, Janet Payne of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Sharon Melby of Mapleton, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, William Forrest "Frosty" Payne, and Blossom Payne; sister Gladys Arrasmith Bottema; brother Keith Payne; brothers-in-law Robert Arrasmith, John Bottema, Eugene Melby, Roger Melby, and Dennis Nelson; sister-in-law Janet Nelson; father-in-law Cleo Melby; mother-in-law Marjorie Melby; maternal grandparents John and Jessie Gries and paternal grandparents Charles and Minnie Payne.

Memorials in his honor may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Howard Funeral Home, 1397 Ashley Rd., Boonville, Mo 65233 (660) 882-3381.
