John S. Kirby, 65 years old, died yesterday day morning at 10 o'clock at his home, 1065 Forty-fifth St. following an illness of nine months caused by malignant stomach trouble.

Mr. Kirby came to Des Moines in the year 1856 with his parents when he was 3 years old. The family located here but later moved to Madison County and continued there on a farm near Winterset until 1916. Mr. Kirby then went to California but returned to Iowa in the spring of 1917 and took up his residence in Des Moines.

He leaves a sister, Miss Margaret Kirby, who made her home with him; another sister, Mrs. Ann Costello, of Granger, and a twin brother, James Kirby, who is a farmer near Winterset. One sister, Mrs. Mary Burke of this city died seven months ago.

Mr. Kirby was a member of the Knights of Columbus and in his youth had studied at the church. He was a member of St. John's parish.

The funeral will be held Thursday leaving the residence at 8 o'clock, and the body will be buried in Saint Patrick's cemetery in Madison County. His pastor, the Rev. D. F. Mulhivill, will conduct the services assisted by the Rev. J. C. White of Winterset and the Rev. Father Duggan of Saint Patrick's. The services at Saint Patrick's will be held at 10 o'clock. Burial will be beside Mr. Kirby's father and mother.
