Page 1Alvira Parsons was born in Jefferson township, Louisa county, Iowa, January 29, 1849. She was the daughter and oldest child of Thompson M. and Mary Hale Parsons, and with them shared apart of the hardships common to the pioneer. She was married to Samuel T. Erwin, November 16, 1869 and for forty-six years she was to him a devoted and loving wife. To this union were born ten children, of whom, one son, Roy C., died April 18, 1904, and two daughters, Eva and Leona died in infancy. The surviving children are James, of Ogden, Utah; Lola, wife of John K. Duncan, of Oakville; Arthur D., living near Wapello and Lue, Samuel H., Myrtle B., and Mary E., living at home.
Mrs. Erwin had never experienced any severe illness until about two years ago, when the first symptoms of the disease which was to prove fatal made themselves manifest. Some months ago her condition became so serious as to requite her removal to a hospital and after treatment there she returned to her home, her condition became steadily worse. The end though not unexpected, came suddenly and she died in the afternoon of August 30, 1915, having attained the age of 66 years, 7 months and 1 day.
The funeral services were held from the home Wednesday at 1 p. m., conducted by Rev. C.W. Sydman and a large number of neighbors and friends and relatives were in attendance. The interment was made in the Parsons cemetery near Toolesboro, where her parents and children are buried.
