Page 1George Philip Wiederrecht was born in Freistadt Baden, Germany, April 12th, 1824 and died in the home of his son, P. G. Wiederrecht, in Jefferson township, Louisa county, Iowa, Aug. 31, 1915, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 19 days. In 1849 he came to this country and in the same year was married to Miss Eva Katherine Meier. After their marriage they bought a small farm in Erie county, New York, where they lived for 16 years. In the year 1865 they sold their farm and came to Iowa, where Mr. Wiederrecht bought his present farm in Jefferson township.
After living for 24 years on the farm they moved to Wapello and after spending 21 years of their life in Wapello, they went to the home of their son, P. G. Wiederrecht and wife to spend their declining years under their care. On August 8th, 1914, a few days more than a year ago, his wife preceded him in death.
Father Wiederrecht was converted to God in the year 1865, in Grandview, Iowa and at the same time he was received into the Grandview Congregational church as a member. He had his membership transferred to the German M. E. church of Wapello in 1878, where he remained a faithful member. He leaves to mourn his departure one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Potter and two sons, P. G. Wiederrecht, of Wapello and William F. Wiederrecht of Davenport, Iowa. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the home of P. G. Wiederrecht in Jefferson township, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. D. Froeschle. Interment was made in Harrison cemetery.
