Page 1Mrs. Jonas Smith, a highly respected resident of Morning Sun, passed away at her home there Monday morning about 5 o'clock, after an illness extending over a year, aged 43 years and 5 months. The deceased, whose maiden name was Stella McLellan was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ia., March 13, 1873. With her parents she came to Morning Sun and she was married in 1900 to Jonas W. Smith. She has made her home in Morning Sun ever since. To this union were born two children, a daughter and a son, both of whom survive to mourn her demise.
Mrs. Smith was a good woman and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother, a loving wife and a very kind friend and neighbor, and the whole community is mourning over he departure from their midst. At the age of fifteen years she became a member of the Methodist church and since that time she has been faithful to her church, her creed and her God. Mrs. Smith was president of W. H. M. S. at the time of her death.
The deceased is survived by her husband, daughter and son, Miriam and Paul, at home; two brother, Chas., of Burlington, and George, of Marshalltown and her mother. The funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, from her late home, conducted by Rev. C. B. Hankins, pastor of the M. E. church of Morning Sun. A large number of relatives and friends attended the services. Burial took place in Elmwood cemetery.
