According to the 1909 Olin Recorder, there was a "Grand Balloon Ascension" in Olin, during the
summer of 1909 by Elmer Coppess.

Article:

"Prof. Elmer Coppess will make a grand Balloon ascension and parachute leap at this place next Saturday. The start will be made at the Starry Flat at 2:30 p.m. It will be free for everybody, so do not fail to come to Olin and see Prof. Coppess sail to the clouds, make the leap and descend in his monster parachute."
