I know the woman I was helping (she also lives in des moines) went to human services in des moines with her son who happened to be a lawyer and they did look into her dad's records from annie wittenmeyer home but they didn't really have much information. adoption records are closed but they should give you unidentifing information and sometimes that unindentifing information will give you a hint. "Long Lost families" last winter did a program on a man in texas who was born in iowa city and adopted and they got Unidenting information and it lead the program to locate his bio mother and father.
