Mary,
Yes, actually all English variations of Maguire derived from the Irish gaelic "Mag Guibhir" meaning son of the brown-haired.I am trying to connect James as the son of Francis from documents in the Jefferson Co. IA area since all my efforts to do the same in Clark Co. IN have failed. They are only circumstantial at best. I know about as much as can be known about the family in Indiana but can not connect the two possitively. Francis and Elizabeth had other children, although only one is named - Martha. Francis' gravestone gives the name Francis McGuire Sr. so there must have been a Francis Jr. too. The problem is that there are at least two Francis McGuires in the Clark Co. area, and as many as four living at the same time. DNA results have shown a relative of one of the Francis to be different than that of mine so it is likely at least two of the Francis are not related. I do not trust anything from Ancestry.com at this point. That is where I started three years ago. I have since found the source of that information and it does not stem from actual proof that James was the son of Francis.
Who should I contact to get a Family Sheet for the James McGuire family in Jefferson County, IA?
Thanks again for all your help.
Mike
