Pioneer Resident Dies. Word has just been received here of the death of Mrs. John Clasen, one of the early settlers and pioneer residents of Jackson county. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Portz and was born in 1842 in Berburg, Luxemburg. She came to America in 1854, settling at Bellevue and residing in the vicinity until the time of her death which occurred as the result of diabetes. Her husband preceded her in death seven years ago. The funeral was held from St. Joseph's church at Bellevue, where requiem mass was read, Very Rev. Bies acting as celebrant, Rev. Father Hageman, deacon and Rev. Father Mauer, sub-deacon. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
