Lifelong Forest City Resident Died

Lifelong Forest City resident, Mrs. Mary J. Stenseth, 82, died Jan. 20 at the Forest City community hospital after an illness with cancer.

Mary J. Stenseth was born Aug. 20, 1900, in Forest City to Clark B. and Dorothy Robinson Core. She graduated from Forest City high school in 1918.

After completing a business course at Waldorf College, she worked as a bookkeeper for the former Keasey Chevrolet garage in Forest City and as a clerk in the Winnebago county treasurer's office.

She was married to Allan D. Stenseth Sept. 22, 1918. She worked with her husband in the operation of Stenseth Motor Company until 1955, when the business was sold and they retired. Mr. Stenseth died Nov. 13, 1962.

Mrs. Stenseth was a member of the United Methodist church, the InterNos Club since 1930, the Twentieth Century Club and was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Clark of Clear Lake; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Glen Core, and a grandson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stenseth were conducted Saturday at the Petersen Funeral home. The Rev. James N. Louk, pastor of the United Methodist church in Forest City, officiated.

Larry L. Kussatz was soloist and Mrs. Franklin Bienert, organist. Honorary pall bearers were Elliott E. Cooper, O. N. Gjellefald, John K. Hanson, John R. Martin, Donald D. Sargent and John C. Thompson.

Casket bearers were T. W. Banner, Martin Bennett, Dr. S. H. Blount, Richard B. Robson, Gerald A. Steiert and Dr. Frank Ward. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery.
