Woden farmer died Saturday
Retired Woden area farmer, Fred Duea, 83, died Saturday at a Mason City hospital. He was admitted to the hospital early Saturday morning and died a few hours later.
Funeral services for Mr. Duea were conducted Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran church in Forest City. The Rev. George Hoaglund officiated.
The Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Peterson sang two duets and Mrs. Oral Kingland was organist. Casket bearers were Amos Holland, Paul Holland, Ronald Jondahl, Oral Kingland, Dallas Nelson and Mike Strum. Burial will be in the spring at Madison Township cemetery. The Petersen Funeral home handled the arrangements.
Fred Duea, the son of Rasmus and Olive Simmons Duea, was born Jan. 7, 1903, near Terrill. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at home by his uncle, the Rev. Edward Duea. After his mother's death, he was raised by his step-grandmother, Henrietta Duea of Roland.
Duea was confirmed at Salem Lutheran church in Roland and received his education there. When he was a young man, he worked on a farm in Grant township in Winnebago county. Sept. 26, 1926, he was married to Irene Holland at the former Trinity Lutheran church in Grant township.
Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to a farm in Sebeka, Minn. They lived there until moving to their present farm in Grant township in 1944. Due to failing health, Duea was admitted to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City Jan. 9, 1985. April 9, 1985, Mrs. Duea joined him at the center.
Duea attended Trinity Lutheran church in Forest City and Grant Lutheran church in rural Woden.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; a son, Sophus Duea of Woden; a brother, Roy Grove of New Baunfels, Texas; and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Nelson of Roland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a foster sister, Helga Britson.
