My husband is the grandson of Peter Luitjens. Jann "John" and Bauke "Bertha" Bosma Luitjens were Peter Bosma Luitjens' parents. Bauke died in Dec. 1888. Jann was left with 4 children, Peter, Anna, Dena and Reka. Jann's niece Henderika Werner (daughter of Jann's sister Marika Luitjens Werner) was sent from Germany to help Jann with the children. The Lambertus Hoppen family also took care of both Jann and all the children. In 1891 everyone moved to near Rosemont, Nebraska. Jann went off to look for work as a carpenter. He broke his leg and then just disappeared. Family rummor is that he changed his name to Peters or Peterson. I am not clear if this is true or not. The children stayed on with the Hoopen family. Hinderika Werner married Dirk Peter Hoppen the son of Lambertus Hoppen. Lambertus Hoppen's daughter Ida Hoppen Penning and her husband John adopted the youngest girl "Reka" (Hinderika Bertha Luitjens B 25 Apr 1887 Kamrar, Hamilton, Iowa. D. 15 Jun 1926 in Glenvil, Clay,Nebraska) She married Dick Rohlfts. Anna Luitjens (B.12 Mar 1884 Kamrar, Iowa D 19 June 1956 in Red Cloud, Nebraska) married John H. Rose and stayed in Nebraska. They lived in Rosemont, Blue Hill and Red Cloud. "Dena", Alberdena Luitjens was born 15 Oct 1885 in Kamrar, Iowa. She died in child birth 19 Sep 1905 in Glenvil, Clay, Nebraska. She was married to Andy Buntjer. Peter Luitjens also stayed in Glenvile. He married Lena Hielen. Contact me if you want more information.
