M. P. Hove was born August 29, 1832, at Vik Sogn, Norway, and in 1871 he came to America, coming directly to Hamilton county where he located on the farm southeast of Stanhope where he resided until the time of his death. He died Monday, November 6th, 1911 at the advanced age of 79 years, 2 months, and 7 days. He had been in poor health all summer, weakening slowly and gradually, and finally passing peacefully away.
Mr. Hove was married September 27, 1872, to Miss Annie Evenson, who also came to this country from the same locality in Norway as Mr. Hove. To this union six children were born, all of whom, as well as the wife, still survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and husband. The children are Peter, Ed, Martin, and Henry, all residing at home, and Mrs. S. J. Severson, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Webb Brown, of Fort Dodge. All were present at the funeral services which were held Wednesday of last week, conducted by Rev. C. J. Eastvold, from the home and from Clear Lake and Ellsworth Lutheran church.
Mr. Hove was one of the most prominent and well-to-do farmers of southern Hamilton county. He was a man beloved and respected by all his friends and neighbors and regarded as a good man, a good neighbor, and a good citizen. He was a member of Clear Lake & Ellsworth church, and in his long life in the one community had long come to be known to everyone as an upright Christian man. His body was laid at rest in the Clear Lake and Ellsworth church cemetery. Iver Hove, Benedict Olson, Omen Endreson, Nick Hagen, Ole Haugland and Gilbert Oppedahl, all close neighbors and lifelong friends of the deceased, acted as the pall bearers.
