ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS HIMSELF
Raymond Kallem Fatally Injured Monday by Rifle Bullet. Operated On at Hospital but Failed to Recover.
FUNERAL HELD THIS AFTERNOON
Raymond Kallem, the 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kallem, residing in the northwest part of town, accidentally shot himself Monday afternoon while attempting to load a 22 repeating rifle. The wound proved fatal, the boy dying only a few hours later.
Raymond, with a younger brother, was in the kitchen at home when the fatal accident occurred. The carriage stuck in the chamber of the gun and in some way the weapon went off. The ball entered the right groin, severing the intestines in eight places, and passing diagonally across the body, passed entirely through the left kidney. A physician was promptly called and after the wound was dressed the boy was taken to the hospital at Webster City where he was operated upon. However he never recovered after the operation and in a few hours after the accident, was dead.
The body was brought back to Jewell Tuesday morning, and the funeral services are being held this afternoon at the home at one o'clock, and at the Norwegian Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. Eastvold. The body will be interred in Evergreen cemetery.
Everyone in the community was shocked by the news of the awful accident and the members of the stricken family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.
