ELLING HANSON FARDAL
At ten o'clock last Sunday, Christmas day, the angel of death called to his reward one of the most prominent and influential citizens of our community, a gentleman who has filled an important place in the church and social circles of the community, Mr. Elling Hanson Fardal. Death came to him at the advanced age of 68 years, 4 months, and 5 days, at the home farm south of town, and took him away easily and peacefully, a beautiful end to a well spent life. The funeral services were held yesterday at 11:30 from the home and at 1:00 o'clock from St. Pauls church, conducted by Rev. Rue, of Calander. The funeral service was very largely attended by sympathizing friends and neighbors.
Mr. Fardal was born in Norway, at Sogn, August 19, 1824. He came to Hamilton county, Iowa about thirty years ago before the existence of Stanhope, and has resided ever since on the farm. He was always a man of the deepest piety and and a leading man in the work of the church. His life was a daily exemplification of Christian living, and he passed away secure and trusting in his faith in an immortal life above. His children have a precious heritage in the knowledge that for twenty years their father had not gone to sleep at night until he had offered a prayer for them.
Mr. Fardal leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn his loss, beside several grand children and an entire community of sorrowing friends and neighbors. The surviving children are H. E. Fardal, John E. Fardal, and Joseph E. Fardal, and Mrs. N. N. Fardall, all of or near Stanhope, and Mrs. Ella Hove of Calmer, Iowa.
The entire community is united in expressing heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
