OBITUARY

Peter O. Challe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels E. Chelle, was born December1, 1873, on the Challe farm two miles south of Jewell. He died July 7th, 1910, at the age of 36 years, 7 months, and 6 days. He made his home farm until young manhood, leaving at the age of 21 for Chicago where he was employed in the Tribune building, and later was in business there. In Chicago he met Miss Hannah Bruning who became his wife, and to this union were born four children, two of whom survive, Henry and William. About five years ago Mr. Challe was injured in an elevator accident in the Tribune building, both legs being crippled so that it became necessary for him to use crutches. With his family he returned to Jewell where he conducted a racket store for nearly three years. Mr. Challe then went to Stanhope where he conducted the hotel until the time of his death.

About a year ago he was injured while getting off a train at Stanhope, and his accident together with his old injury, gradually weakened him and brought him to his death.

Mr. Challe is survived by his wife and two boys, and by his brothers, E. N. of Jewell, Sam of Foley, Ala., and Nels in Chicago and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Espe of Galt, Iowa, and Mrs. A. Foss of Jewell. One brother and one sister have preceded him. Mr. Challe was a good citizen, a kind and loving husband and father, an enterprising and hard working, industrious man. His friends were numbered only by the number of those who knew him and all extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at three o'clock from the Norwegian Lutheran church by Rev. Eastvold. All the brothers and sisters except Sam were present at the funeral.
