Hi,
I am new to researching Fayette Co. so bear with me. :)
My following ancestors lived in Clermont, Fayette Co. during the late 1850s to at least the 1880s:
Morris Cahalan (b. about 1820, IRE) m. Ellen ? (b. about 1815, IRE). They had 3 children (that I know of): Mary (b. abt. 1850, MA) who married a Fitzgerald I think; Margaret (b. abt. 1855, MO) who married a Cavin, had twin boys Morris and John Cavin; and Morris Francis (b. abt. 1857, IA) who married Mary Ellen CONNERS (b. abt. 1860, IA). I have census records of their stay in IA from 1860-1880. I also know that Morris Francis and Mary Ellen moved to SD between 1880-1885, and have records of their life after that time, but I can find no record (online :) ) of what happened to the rest of the family.I see from the cemetery list provided by Fayette Co. Gen. Society, that Clermont has one Catholic cemetery, are there any others in Clermont? Also, did towns have their own newspapers, or was there just a County paper?
I am going to call this week to request some lookups, but thought I'd see if anyone on this list recognized the surname Cahalan, or could answer some of my questions for me.
I appreciate the help,
Sally Myers
