Violet Van Steenis

Violet Van Steenis, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Feb. 7, 1881, at the Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines.

She was born Dec. 11, 1922, in New Sharon to Harry and Ramona Mabel Lining Manges.

She married Donald Van Steenis on May 9, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo.

She was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible and attended Open Bible College from 1946 to 1949 in Des Moines. She worked as a missionary for 15 years for Labor of Love Missions in Winterhaven, Calif. She formerly lived in Harvey before moving to Oskaloosa.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Row Jean Wilcox of Bloomfield, Vida Hart and Kathryn Duff of Des Moines; a son, William of Henderson, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Manges of Geyserville, Calif., and Charles "Bud" Manges of Pella and four sisters, Margaret Boggs of Ontario, Calif., Eloise Shroyer of Beacon, Delores "Necon" Rowley of Anaheim, Calif., and Rowena Steadham of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald; and a brother, Harry Manges.

Funeral services were held Feb. 9, 1991 at the First Church of the Open Bible in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dwayne Poe and the Rev. L.A. "Dell" Lombard and Joann Lombard officiating. Burial was in the Porterville Cemetery near Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Labor of Love missions.
